NY Contractor Guidelines for Alternate A+ Carrier:
- All eligible contractors must be in business 3 consecutive years. No new ventures.
- If the insured has had previous WC coverage, loss runs are required.
- Any contractors on the 'Limited' list will be submitted to the carrier and are subject to approval.
- There are height restrictions on all eligible contractors. Please advise the maximum height each insured works at so the carrier can determine eligibility.
- All submissions should include a detailed description of operations, percentage of commercial/residential work, years in business, and prior coverage information.

Acceptable types of business:
- Air Conditioning Cleaning & Repair
- Air Conditioning Equip & Sys – Install, Service & Repair
- Alarm System Installation – Property Only
- Appliance Wiring
- Asphalt Floor Tile
- Boiler & Furnace – Installation & Repair residential, small mercantile & office bldgs. NO industrial
- Cable Television Installation – Pole to pole/house to pole work ineligible
- Carpentry (class 5443 only) – Finish & Trim only; Only applies to finish and trim, moldings, chair rails, window/door trim
- Carpentry (class 5443 only) – Light interior carpentry not otherwise classified, no major renovation work
- Ceramic Floor Tile Installation
- Communication Equipment Installation – Industrial/Commercial Installation, service or repair of audio or sound systems; video, intercom and public address systems; computer networks, including wireless, or signaling equipment such as television dishes
- Electrical Wiring – Commercial & Residential
- Fence Installation
- Fiber Optic Cable Installation
- Floor Covering Installation – Linoleum or Vinyl
- Furniture & Fixture Installation – Portable partitions, computer accessories (desktops, shelves, stations) closet organizers commercial/residential
- Heating/Combined Heating & Air Conditioning Equip Install
- Home Appliance Installation
- Home Theater Installation & Maintenance
- Hydroponics Heating Installation & Repair
- Iron Works – Decorative or Artistic only; Installation included, only applies to insureds who work w/iron to create small decorative/artistic items such as wall hangings or statues; No structures, grandstands, windmills, or anything other than small decorative items
- Lawn Irrigation or Sprinkler System Installation
- Musical Instruments Tuning & Repair
- Plumbing – Commercial & Industrial
- Plumbing – Residential
- Refrigeration Equip. & Systems Installation, Service, Repair
- Small Motor & Engine Repair
- Sound Equipment Installation
- Swimming Pool Cleaning & Maintenance – No repair work, no pool construction/repair, no lifeguard operations
- TV or Radio Receiving Set Installation
- Telephone Equipment Installation – No pole to pole installation
- Wallpapering – Commercial & Residential
- Water Softening/Purification Systems Installation
- Window Treatment Installation

- Cabinet – Building & Installation
- Carpet & Furniture Cleaning at the Customer Premises
- Carpet Laying & Removal – Installation of wall to wall carpeting including the padding; Includes removal of old carpeting
- Ceramic Tile Installation
- Countertop Installation
- Driveway, Parking Area or Sidewalk Paving or Repaving – Street and road paving not eligible
- Mosaic Work
- Painting & Wallpapering – Commercial or Residential Interior
- Retaining Wall Construction – Construction of small artificial barriers for residential customers to regulate, control or confine soil and water flow around walkways or driveways
- Stonework – Exterior only; Applies to stonewalls and walkways
- Terrazzo Work – Does not include manufacturing of pre-cast terrazzo steps, benches and other terrazzo articles away from the construction site
- Tile/Stone/Marble/Mosaic/Terrazzo Installation – Interior; Interior work, flooring, walls, or wall coverings, mantels or countertops
- Wood Floor Installation & Refinishing – Includes removal of old flooring, measuring, cutting and fitting the new flooring to size and installing
