If a policyholder with the New York State Insurance Fund wants to terminate the policy in order to move to a private insurer, a notice must be given to NYSIF 30 days in advance. For years, our association members have complained about this statutory privilege that often results in a short-rate penalty and unfair competition by NYSIF. We would like to get an indication of the scope of this problem, which may contribute to successful legislation in eliminating the 30-day notice requirement (one of our legislative priorities). Please help us by completing ALL questions on the following survey.
On average, how far in advance of the renewal date does your agency contact NYSIF policyholders in order to market the risk to private insurers?
