PIACT confirms: Insurance agencies deemed essential for ’Stay safe, stay home,’ and other COVID-19 updates

Gov. Ned Lamont signed Executive Order 7H, “Stay safe, stay home,” on March 22, to order all nonessential businesses to stop all in-person functions. PIACT confirmed with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development that insurance agencies are considered an essential business for the purposes of Executive Order No. 7H.

Essential businesses may continue office operations. but still must maximize remote options to minimize the number of people in the workplace. The order went into effect on March 23, 2020, at 8 p.m. In conjunction with “Stay safe, stay home,” Lamont also signed Executive Order 7I to address challenges Connecticut residents and communities are facing as a result of the pandemic.

The order includes modifications to Department of Social Services benefits; flexibility related to the Student Data Privacy Act; modifications to Department of Consumer Protection regulations regarding pharmacies; and more. Here is more information about both executive orders.

Lamont signed Executive Order 7K on March 23, 2020, to allow remote notarization, and to suspend probate court, noncritical workers’ compensation requirements. On March 24, 2020, Lamont signed Executive Order 7L that extends school closures, allows for an early start to fishing season, makes it easier for municipalities to hire retired workers, and more.
