PIA to lobby Congress at FLS

Hundreds of PIA members from around the nation will participate in the 2018 PIA National Federal Legislative Summit, April 24-25, in Washington, D.C. The annual event is a gathering of PIA members from around the country that offers attendees the opportunity to visit the offices of their members of Congress to let them know firsthand what effects proposed legislation will have on their businesses.

This year, PIA will be focused on issues such as: encouraging Congress to repeal the Federal Insurance Office, protecting a strong and stable crop insurance program and reinstating fair and just compensation in health care.

Another priority is securing a long-term authorization of the National Flood Insurance Program.

PIA supports the long-term reauthorization of the NFIP, which has seen a series of short-term authorizations since its initial expiration in September. PIA supports legislation that would encourage the growth of the private flood market and opposes any provisions that would lead to a cut to agent commissions.

The 2018 PIA Federal Legislative Summit will begin Tuesday, April 24, at the Hilton Crystal City, Arlington, Va., with an in-depth issues-briefing session and Q&A to prepare attendees for their congressional visits. On Wednesday, April 25, PIA members will gather for a kickoff breakfast before making their way to Capitol Hill for a day of advocacy visits with their members of Congress, and the day will end with a fundraising reception for the Professional Insurance Agents Political Action Committee.
