Cathy Trischan entered the insurance business upon graduation from Rutgers University. After her first job as a claims adjuster for a carrier, she moved to the agency side of the business. She held various agency positions including Commercial Lines Manager, Producer and, most recently, Director of Commercial Underwriting. In 2023, she began to work full-time in her training and consulting business. In addition to her work with PIA, Cathy is a regular presenter for various agents’ associations and other organizations. She is a National Faculty member of The National Alliance, speaking in the CIC, CISR, Ruble and ProFocus programs. Cathy has also written numerous articles on various insurance topics. A firm believer that one should never stop learning, Cathy holds several professional designations including CPCU, CIC and CRM.

Steven D Lyon

CPCU, CIC, CRM, CRIS, AAI, ARM, AIS, MLIS, AFIS

Lyon is the founder and principal of Lyon Consulting Services LLC, an independent consulting and educational firm. He utilizes his 35 years of expertise and experience associated with owning, operating and managing an independent insurance agency in northern New Jersey. In addition, Lyon has served as the regional director of education and regional vice president in charge of personal lines for the insurance division of a dynamic banking institution. He has earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Certified Insurance Counselor, Certified Risk Managers, Accredited Adviser in Insurance, Associate in Risk Management, Associate in Insurance Services, Construction Risk Insurance Specialist and Management Liability Insurance Specialist designations. Lyon conducts more than 150 insurance-related classes each year for agencies and companies throughout the U.S. He works regularly with the Professional Insurance Agents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and New Hampshire along with the Society of CIC. His fast-paced, unique teaching style, makes him a favorite among seminar attendees.

Sheldon D Hansen

CIC, CRM, CPIA

Sheldon graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He moved with his wife to New Jersey to accept a teaching position at Toms River High School North. While teaching, he worked in his fathers' Independent Insurance Agency. Sheldon purchased the agency in 1978 and grew the agency to 16 professional staff members before merging in 2001 to form Brouwer Hansen and Izdebski Associates.BHI is a multi-location Independent Insurance Agency located in New Jersey. Sheldon completed his CIC designation in 1980, his CRM in 2006 and his CPIA designation in September 2009 with the firm belief that Knowledge is Power. He has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Central Ocean Rotary Club, Board Member of the Ocean County Independent Insurance Agents, Member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers, Redshaw User Group, and many other community organizations. Sheldon has 40 years of valuable experience in all aspects of the Independent Agency System and he now sells from a Risk Management forum which most clients view as Professional Consulting. He maintains his own book of business with BHI, meeting with clients on a regular basis to adjust their coverage to meet their current needs. The reduced agency management responsibilities facilitated by the merger gave Sheldon the opportunity to expand back into his first love, education. He now teaches numerous continuing education classes to professional insurance agents in a number of designations. He teaches all 5 CISR courses in New Jersey, New York & Connecticut, CIC Commercial Property for the National Alliance, and William T. Hold Classes for PIA on behalf of The National Alliance. He also teaches PIA Agency On Site courses, PIA Webinars and PIA Expo/March Madness courses, which include Flood Certification, Fraud, Errors and Omissions, Ethics, Customer Service, CAIP/PAIP, and others. He is pleased to be teaching all 4 of the CPIA classes for The American Insurance Marketing and Sales Society (AIMS) and PIA. Sheldon has taught Continuing Education Classed in numerous others states and Puerto Rico. His two new Cyber Liability and Data Breach classes are very popular.
