Emerging Risks: Autonomous Vehicles, Short-Term Rentals, Rideshares & Drones

Thursday, March 20, 9–11 a.m.
Submitted for CTCE credits.
John Fear, CPIA, CISR

In the insurance industry, the named insured has been the foundation of how risk is assigned and/or transferred. However, the proliferation of drones, transportation network companies, autonomous vehicles and short-term rentals raises new coverage questions, such as: Who is at risk when there isn’t a specific someone behind the controls (in the case of an accident)? This course will outline how insurance professionals can assist their clients in understanding the risks associated with technological and sociological advancements—such as driverless cars, unmanned aerial vehicles and online enabled ride-sharing—regarding their personal and commercial insurance needs.

The Intersection of AI and Insurance

Thursday, March 20, 3:30–4:30 p.m.
Submitted for CTCE credits.
John Fear, CPIA, CISR

Generative artificial intelligence continues to impact all areas of our lives. It’s in the devices we carry with us; the items in our homes; the vehicles that we use to commute back and forth to work; and the tools that we use to run our businesses—including insurance-related businesses. Whether it’s how the carrier partners are determining products, pricing and underwriting guidelines, or how independent agents are assessing the individual risks of their clients, the insurance industry has areas of opportunity, as well as possible errors-and-omissions pitfalls, which partnering with automation can bring. This course will examine the intersection of this new landscape, and the tools agents can use to minimize the possibilities for E&O exposures when they interact with clients.

Errors & Omissions: An Agent’s Ethical and Legal Obligations^UN^AZ

Friday, March 21, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Submitted for CTCE credits.
Christopher Weldon Esq., Winget, Spadafora & Schwartzberg LLP

Insurance producers have ethical and legal obligations under Connecticut state laws and regulations. This course will use examples of actual lawsuits and regulatory matters to highlight those obligations and to offer insights to insurance producers about specific matters, including: examining rebating issues; following required surplus-lines procedures; canceling company appointments for cause; utilizing an unauthorized name to conduct business; using misleading or deceptive advertising practices; and charging improper fees. The course will examine common types of errors-and-omissions claims and lawsuits; and how the use of proper documentation can protect an agency against these claims. Cyber and data breaches and core coverages and limits also will be discussed.

^UN^AZ—This course has been approved for E&O loss-prevention credit by Utica National & Allianz. Call the PIA E&O Department for details.
