Getting involved ensures a bright futureNY-YIP members are the future of the insurance industry. That is why it is crucial for you to get involved now in the processes that shape the industry’s future. What happens in the legislative arena affects every professional, independent insurance agent, whether they participate in it. We urge you to be active in shaping your future. Make your voice heard by donating to PIANYPAC, our political action committee. PIANYPAC has advocated for and won many legislative victories for the industry, including the Certificates of Insurance Law and the extension of the time frame for automobile photo inspections. Currently, PIANYPAC is diligently active in regard to the new cybersecurity regulation. Your contribution will help this and future efforts, including reforming the New York State Insurance Fund and repealing the Scaffold Law. You or your firm may make a donation to PIANYPAC. When you make a donation, your name (or your firm’s name for a corporate donation) will appear in PIANY publications to highlight your support, unless you choose to remain an anonymous donor. Please consider supporting PIANYPAC at any level of giving. Every dollar is vital in increasing our efforts to effect legislative change. Your generous donation will help to shape the future you want to live and work in, starting today. To support PIANYPAC today, click here.
Certified Professional Insurance Agent national designation programAs a member of NY-YIP, you can get a discount on your CPIA certification. The American Insurance Marketing and Sales Society's Certified Professional Insurance Agent designation is first-of-its kind, hands-on, how-to training. The Insurance Success Seminars are designed to enhance the ability of producers, sales support staff and company personnel to efficiently create and distribute comprehensive insurance programs. Participants leave with ideas that will produce results immediately. The workshops are engaging right from the start. You will work with fellow insurance professionals and learn by actually working on real-life issues. Together, you'll create practical solutions that you can implement as soon as you get back to your office. And because you learn by doing, not by just listening, you'll remember—and be able to use—much more of what is covered in class. The three parts of the CPIA designation will teach you how to build and deliver effective insurance programs, broaden your organization's market reach and deliver customer service that drives increased retention. You will leave with expanded technical knowledge, practical ways to reduce E&O exposures and a greater confidence in your ability to serve today's customers with what they want and more. Gov. Cuomo signs PIANY top-priority CE billGov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law a PIANY top-priority continuing-education bill (S.1314-A/A.117-A) in September. The new law eliminates the need for insurance agents and brokers to take duplicative CE courses for both their individual and agency insurance licenses. The law exempts business-entity licenses from CE requirements when all sublicenses can demonstrate they have adequate CE credits to support their individual licenses in effect at the date of renewal. This issue was the leading piece of legislation for PIANY this past legislative session. More ...
NYDFS extends cybersecurity filing deadlineThe New York State Department of Financial Services extended the initial period for filing the Notice of Exemption required by its new cybersecurity regulation. Covered Entities that determine they qualify for a limited exemption before Oct. 1, are now required to file a Notice of Exemption on or prior to Saturday, Oct. 30. All New York licensees are required by the NYDFS to comply with the regulation. PIANY and the IIABNY requested this extension in a letter and in previous meetings with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s executive staff and the NYDFS.
NFIP short-term extension grantedPresident Trump signed into law a bill that provides funding for hurricane relief, as well as raises the debt ceiling and keeps the government open for three months. The new law also reauthorizes the National Flood Insurance Program for a period of three months. A short-term extension is great news for agents because it prevents a lapse of the NFIP. A lapse would have been a worst-case scenario for producers. The program is now extended until Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, but past that date the future of the program is cloudy. |
