NJYIP launches new website
NJYIP has launched its newly redesigned website. The fresh and updated look allows for easier navigation and will include news, resources and information for NJYIP members, as well as sponsor highlights and upcoming networking opportunities. PIA encourages its members to check out the site and to consider making up-and-coming agency stars part of the YIP organization.
CPIA national designation program
Did you know that as a member of NJYIP, you can get a discount on your Certified Professional Insurance Agent certification? The American Insurance Marketing and Sales Society's Certified Professional Insurance Agent designation is first-of-its kind, hands-on, how-to training. The Insurance Success Seminars are designed to enhance the ability of producers, sales support staff and company personnel to efficiently create and distribute comprehensive insurance programs. Participants leave with ideas that will produce results immediately. The workshops are engaging right from the start. You will work with fellow insurance professionals and learn by working on real-life issues. Together, you'll create practical solutions that you can implement as soon as you get back to your office. And because you learn by doing, not by just listening, you'll remember—and be able to use—much more of what is covered in class. The three parts of the CPIA designation will teach you how to build and deliver effective insurance programs, broaden your organization's market reach and deliver customer service that drives increased retention. You will leave with expanded technical knowledge, practical ways to reduce errors-and-omissions exposures and a greater confidence in your ability to serve today's customers with what they want and more. Learn more here.
Get involved to ensure a bright future
NJYIP members like you are the future of the insurance industry. That is why it is crucial for you to get involved now in the processes that shape the industry’s future. What happens in the legislative arena affects every professional, independent insurance agent, whether they participate in it. We urge you to be active in shaping your future. Make your voice heard by donating to NJPIAPAC, our Political Action Committee. NJPIAPAC has advocated for, and won, many legislative victories for the industry, including the Certificates of Insurance Law and ensuring home contractors had proper insurance coverage in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. Your contribution will help this and future efforts, including reforming New Jersey’s duty of care for producers. You or your firm may make a donation to NJPIAPAC. When you make a donation, your name (or your firm’s name if a corporate donation) will appear in PIANJ publications to highlight your support, unless you choose to remain an anonymous donor. Please note: New Jersey law prohibits insurance carriers from making PAC contributions. Consider supporting NJPIAPAC at any level of giving. Every dollar is vital in increasing our efforts to effect legislative change. Your generous donation will help to shape the future you want to live and work in, starting today. Support NJPIAPAC today here. |

PIA offers resources to help with duty of care
The standard of care to which producers in New Jersey are held in dealings with their clients has evolved over the course of nearly 60 years of case law into one of the highest standards in the country. Under the current standard, the obligations of an agent/broker are: 1. to procure insurance; 2. to secure a policy that is neither void nor materially deficient; and 3. to provide the coverage he or she undertook to supply. If an agent or broker fails to exercise the requisite skill and diligence when fulfilling those obligations, then there is a breach of the duty of care, and liability arises. More ... PIANJ is engaging in a campaign of education and reform. The association has created —and will continue to create—education materials including sample letters. In addition PIANJ is exploring the option to reform the duty of care standard through legislation to bring that standard more in line with neighboring states. |
